Shopping ads have become increasingly popular in recent years, surpassing text ads. In 2017, Google responded to the change by selling more shopping ads.
In 2017, toys and electronics topped the charts 10.25 and 10.09, respectively. In 2018, the highest rates went to automotive parts and flowers/gifts, at 1.41 and 1.30.
Shopping ads started to have lower click through rates than before, and many are attributing this shift to Google selling more shopping ads than text ads. In this case, it appears something that many companies were benefiting from is no longer effective due to Google’s change.
